3. Choose Overtime options and enter your hourly rate

Overtime settings include Overtime Threshold i.e. hours per day and Overtime pay rate multiplier.

Example: An employee works for 50 hours in a particular week and his hourly rate is $15.

If overtime threshold is 8 hours per day, then for a 5 day work week, Regular hours will be 40 per week and Overtime hours will be 10.

Absolutely. You can select any start and end dates to match your specific pay period, whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

Hours worked are converted to decimal form to ensure it is correctly multiplied with your hourly rate. To convert time to decimal, you keep the hour as is and convert the minutes into a fraction of an hour. Since there are 60 minutes in an hour, divide the minutes by 60.

Example: Let’s say you worked 7 hours and 30 minutes.

  • Convert 30 minutes to decimal: 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5
  • Add that to the hours: 7 + 0.5 = 7.5 hours

So, 7 hours and 30 minutes = 7.5 decimal hours.

  • 25 minutes in decimal hours is 0.42 (25 minutes / 60).
  • 30 minutes in decimal hours is 0.50 (30 minutes / 60).
  • 45 minutes in decimal hours is 0.75 (45 minutes / 60).

When tracking work hours, breaks and lunch periods are typically subtracted from the total time worked to determine actual hours on the job. For example, if an employee works from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30 minute lunch break, the total work time is 7.50 hours.

Using a Time Card Calculator with Lunch makes this process simple and accurate — it allows users to input start and end times along with break duration, automatically computing the net work hours. This ensures accurate timekeeping and compliance with labor regulations.
